What’s new in version 1.2.0

WP User Manager Published on November 20, 2015

Today I’m excited to announce the release of version 1.2.0 of the WP User Manager plugin. This update has been in development for over a month now. V1.20 brings a serie of improvements, bugfixes and new exciting features. For a full list of the changes please read the changelog here https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-user-manager/changelog/.

Settings import & export

WPUM now ships with a new tool to export and import the plugin’s settings from a site to another. This is useful when you’re moving your site to a new server or just want to replicate the settings of an existing site. The new functionality has been added into a new “WPUM Tools” page under the “Users” menu of your WordPress dashboard.

Search in directories

You can now allow your visitors to search users of your directories. A new option has been introduced when creating/editing a directory that allows you to enable or disable the search form. The search form when used will look for user ID, user email, username, nickname and website url.

Force login redirect

In version 1.1.0, WPUM introduced a new way for login redirects to work. A login redirect will trigger based on what the visitor is doing on your site. This has been described here into the documentation here. The behavior described into the documentation might not always fit every website, so in version 1.2.0 a new option has been added to remove the referral login functionality. By enabling the “Always redirect” option into the redirects section of the plugin’s settings, referrals will no longer trigger.

Show/Hide fields

WPUM now ships with a new feature that allows you to decide which fields should display into the user public profile page. When editing a field, a new “visibility” box will be displayed allowing you to hide a field if needed.

PS: the above screenshot is from the custom fields addon that will be released very soon 😉

Fields query class

A lot of love has been given to developers in this update. If you are a developer you might know about the WordPress WP_Query class, this class is used by developers to “loop” through posts and usually display them on the front-end. WPUM v1.2.0 now comes with it’s own class that developers can use to loop through user fields. Usage is very easy if you have any experience with WP_Query.

Example usage of the class can be seen into the updated profile-overview.php template file. You will see how the fields are now looped instead of being hardcoded.

Adjust fields order on profile page

With the changes made in v1.2.0 you can now easily adjust the order of the fields that appear into the user profile page. To change the order, simply drag & drop the fields into the fields editor page.

Under the hood

A lot of new functions, filters and actions have been added to the plugin. Developers can use them to customize the plugin. Most of the functions are commented so if you’re interested in them, head over to github and have a look at the source code.

At some point in the future I’ll be building a documentation for developers that describes usage of the functions and hooks.
