In the WordPress admin, go to Users > Settings. The first tab, General, holds the settings below. They are grouped into three sections: the pages WP User Manager uses, Login Settings and Misc Settings.

Pages Setup
-----------

WPUM uses 5 pages for its frontend forms and profiles. It creates them when you install it, and you can change them here. Each one is a normal WordPress page with a shortcode on it, so to use a different page, add the shortcode to it and select it in the matching setting:

- **Login Page:** the page with the \[wpum\_login\_form\] shortcode.
- **Password Recovery Page:** the page with the \[wpum\_password\_recovery\] shortcode.
- **Registration Page:** the page with the \[wpum\_register\] shortcode.
- **Account Page:** the page with the \[wpum\_account\] shortcode.
- **Profile Page:** the page with the \[wpum\_profile\] shortcode.

Login Settings
--------------

**Lock Access to wp-login.php:** stops visitors using the default wp-login.php page. They are redirected to the WPUM Login Page instead. See [Redirecting the WordPress login page](https://wpusermanager.com/article/217-redirecting-wordpress-login-page/).

**Allow Users to Login With:** how users identify themselves on the login form.

- Username only: users log in with their username.
- Email only: users log in with their email address.
- Username or Email Address: users can use either. New installs start with this one.

**Prevent site access to visitors:** locks the whole site so only logged-in users can see it. Visitors who aren't logged in are redirected to the Login Page, and the REST API needs a logged-in user too. The Login Page and Password Recovery Page stay open.

**Allow site registration:** shown once "Prevent site access to visitors" is on. It keeps the Registration Page open to visitors, so they can still sign up while the rest of the site is locked. If you have more than one registration page (with the [Registration Forms addon](https://wpusermanager.com/addons/registration-forms/)), add the others with the wpum\_registration\_pages filter: see [Preventing access to whole site unless a user is logged in](https://wpusermanager.com/article/301-preventing-access-to-whole-site-unless-a-user-is-logged-in/). To open any other page to visitors, use the wpum\_prevent\_entire\_site\_access\_allowed\_urls filter, which takes an array of full URLs. Each must match the requested URL exactly, including the trailing slash.

**Generic Login Error:** shows the same error message whether the username or the password was wrong, so the login form can't be used to find out which usernames exist on your site.

---

Misc Settings
-------------

**Admin Bar:** hides the WordPress admin bar on the frontend for the user roles you select. Click into the field and pick one or more roles.

**Restrict Dashboard Access:** stops the user roles you select from reaching the WordPress dashboard. Administrators always have access. See [Restricting Access to the WordPress Dashboard](https://wpusermanager.com/article/256-restricting-access-to-the-wordpress-dashboard/).

**Excluded Usernames:** usernames your members can't register with. Put each one on a new line.

**Roles Editor:** adds a Roles screen to the Users menu, where you can create roles and edit their capabilities. See [Editing WordPress User Roles and Capabilities](https://wpusermanager.com/article/271-editing-wordpress-user-roles-and-capabilities/).

**Allow Multiple Roles:** lets you give a user more than one role.

**Form Styles:** adds basic styles to the login, registration, account and password forms: full-width fields and a styled submit button. It's on by default for new sites. Turn it off if your theme already styles forms.
