How to add profile tabs to external URLs

To add a tab to the profile page that links to another site, register the tab and then change its URL with two filters.

This example adds a “Google” tab that sends users to Google:

<?php

function my_wpum_add_profile_tab_link( $tabs ) {
	$tabs['google'] = [
		'name' => esc_html( 'Google' ), // the name shown on the tab
		'priority' => 2,
	];

	return $tabs;
}

add_filter( 'wpum_get_registered_profile_tabs', 'my_wpum_add_profile_tab_link' );

function my_wpum_get_profile_tab_url( $url, $tab ) {
	if ( 'google' === $tab ) {
		return 'https://www.google.com'; // where the tab links to
	}

	return $url;
}

add_filter( 'wpum_get_profile_tab_url', 'my_wpum_get_profile_tab_url', 10, 2 );

Change the tab key (‘google’, used in both functions), the tab name and the URL to suit your site. ‘priority’ sets the tab’s position among the profile tabs.

The snippet is also available as a gist. Save it to a file in your /wp-content/mu-plugins/ directory (create the mu-plugins directory if it doesn’t exist).
