Adding social login methods to your site gives users a quick and easy way to sign up and login into your site. WP User Manager allows users to register and sign up from the frontend of the site, and this can be extended with the Social Login addon.
WP User Manager is one of the most straightforward to use WordPress membership plugins available, with a large number of features that turn your WordPress site into a membership platform.
To add Twitter login and registration to your WordPress website you need to have a Twitter account. If you have an account, login with your account and navigate to http://apps.twitter.com/.
Click the “Create new app” button to setup a custom twitter app. This app will be used for logins and registration through twitter. In the newly opened page, locate the “Callback URLs” setting and type your website url followed by /wpum/auth/twitter.
Once you’ve filled all the details about the app, click the “Create your Twitter Application” at the bottom of the page.
Enable Twitter signin within your application
Once your new application has been created, navigate to the “Settings” tab and make sure the setting “Allow this application to be used to Sign in with Twitter” has been enabled.
Additional required permissions
In order for WP User Manager to retrieve the email address of the user that tries to login with Twitter, you need to specifically enable the option within your Twitter application. To do so, you need to enter your website’s privacy policy and terms of service. Enter the url of those pages within your app’s settings and then save your changes.
Now that you’ve added your privacy policy and tos, you’ll be able to enable the email setting. Navigate to the “Permissions” tab and enable the “Request email addresses from users” setting.
Setup your Twitter application within WP User Manager
You Twitter application is now ready to be used within WP User Manager. Within your Twitter app, navigate to the “Keys and Access Tokens” tab and copy and paste the API Key and API Secret keys into your WordPress website.
In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to “Users -> Settings -> General -> Social Login” and fill in the Twitter API Key and Twitter API Secret settings, with the keys that you’ve just retrieved.
Your website is now ready to provide login and registration through Twitter 🙂
