How to restrict custom fields to be only editable by site admins

Sometime custom field data about a user should only be editable by site admins. Maybe you’ve collected the data from the user upon registration, but don’t want to let them change it from their account settings.

To restrict the field from being edited by the user, navigate to Users > Custom Fields and select the Field Group with the field. Click ‘Edit Field’ and then navigate to the ‘Permissions’ tab.

In the ‘Profile editing’ setting, select Hidden. Click ‘Save changes’. The field will no longer show in the account settings page.

If you do want users to see the value but not be able to edit it, then set ‘Profile editing’ to be, select Publicly editable and then check the ‘Set as read only’ setting.
